2016 Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe: WHY? WHY. WHY!

First off, I absolutely hate the GLE. I hate that Mercedes would even try and fight the BMW X6, even though it pretty much has the market. I hate that it looks like the result of an ML and a Playmobile wagon after a night together at a Motel 6. And I hate that fact Mercedes is even considering replacing the ML with this horrid monstrosity.

So it comes to no surprise that the freshly announced GLE63 S really doesn’t do much for me, in fact it insinuates me even more. The wider stance and larger air inlets in the bumper really do not help the aesthetics (not that anything really could). The 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 producing 577hp is nice, however it is disappointing that Benz is using this relic instead of their new 4.0. While I can’t comment on the practicality of the GLE, since it was conceived to try and go toe to toe with BMW X6, I guess you could say it is as practical (which isn’t saying much because the X6 isn’t practical at all).

To be honest, I would judge you really hard if you even considered getting a regular GLE, let alone an AMG version. If you want a car like a GLE, get the X6. If you want a practical luxury car that is good looking, nice to drive, and fast, get the E63 Estate.

Edit: So the this GLE Coupe will not be replacing the ML, instead the ML will be rebadged as the GLE. Still doesn't change my feelings towards this car.
