Reveal: Koenigsegg Regera

Accelerating by 62mph in 3.2s is pretty much common for sports cars of today. But accelerating by 62mph from 93mph in 3.2s? Now that’s something unheard of…until now that is. The cheeky Swiss lads at Koenigsegg have just unveiled their newest Hypercar. The Regera.

Regera is Swedish for “The reign”, which is fitting because this cousin of Volvo pretty much hails over the Hypercar world. Koenigsegg’s bulletproof 5.0 Twin-turbo V8 sits in the middle of the carbon fiber chassis, pushing around 1100hp to the rear wheels. But that’s only part of the story. There are three (3) electric motors producing an addition 700hp! Together, the Regera is strapped up with 1800hp and 1460 lb/ft of torque! For reference, that’s about double the power than the McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari, and Porsche 918!!!

Oh, and because Christian Von Koenigsegg is a bloody genius, the Regera comes with NO TRANSMISSION! Instead, the internal combustion engine directs all of its power to the rear wheels through a single gear. The electric motors, with their massive power, assist the motor get up to the peak power band. This crazy move was done in the name of weight savings. Was it a mistake? Not by the initial performance numbers. The Regera pounces from 0-62mph in 2.7s, would be faster but tire technology needs some catching up. As stated above, it will pull from 93mph to 155mph in 3.2s!!! And will keep pulling all the way to 255mph! I’m getting short of breath just reading this.

Now the styling is aerodynamically enhanced, however that doesn’t mean it looks like product of a lab. The Regera is a radical shift from the Koenigsegg’s past cars. The body is much more curvy and dynamic. Also looks longer too. I like it, but the Agera still has my vote for best looking Koenigsegg.

On the inside, one would’ve expected a stripped out cockpit with more buttons to push to than a Sears Tower elevator (not Willis). But no. Instead, the Regera’s interior lives up to the $1.9 million price tag. Yes there is a load of carbon fiber, but all is clad in leather. Hell, there is 9.1in screen which can connect to your iPhone! This car will even go 18 miles with nothing by pure electricity AND you can pop the top off!!!  This is a practical hypercar (if there were such thing).

The Regera is limited to 80 units, and costs $1.9 million. The first car is almost complete and will go into testing later this year. Deliveries should begin sometime in the future…and by that I mean I don’t know. But the Regera is coming. And I, for one, am ready for it.
