Chevrolet Silverado Black Widow - The Workhorse

I will be the first to admit, growing up in Chicago we don’t normally see pickup trucks. They are big, loud and are impossible to park in an urban environment. Until I came to Iowa, I had never even sat in a pickup truck. I would never have even thought to review one, even though pickup trucks in Iowa sometimes seem like they outnumber the residents. They do come close, with the top three selling vehicles being trucks from Ford, Chevrolet, and Ram. So when the opportunity arose, I knew I had to jump on the opportunity. So here it is, behold this Chevrolet Silverado Black Widow modified by SCA Performance.

One of the first things that grabs your attention about the Silverado Black Widow is the size. It towers over other cars with its SCA True Six Inch Suspension Lift as you drive down the road. Other cars would barely draw even with the door handles. While inside of the Black Widow, it is easy to forget that you are in a pickup truck. Instead, with the car-like controls, rich leather, and the awesome Bose speaker setup, it feels like a large luxury SUV, not a truck.

The most interesting thing about the Black Widow, and trucks in general, is the culture that surrounds them. In certain parts of the country, you can look for miles and only see Ford F-Series trucks, in other parts you will only see only Chevrolet Silverados with various Rams, GMCs and Toyotas scattered among the masses.

When I first came to Iowa, I quickly found out that Chevys rule. They are everywhere, hauling everything, pulling everything. For every F-Series I see, there are at least three to four Silverados nearby. Then there is the customization scene with the trucks. Some trucks I have seen seem to be more customized than sports cars, with their huge exhaust pipes, custom interiors, and impressive lift kits. Even though I will always be a sports car guy, it is nice to know trucks like the Black Widow, when the road ends and the sports cars have to stop on the asphalt, will always be waiting, ready to continue no matter what terrain lays ahead.
