The Jaguar F-Type SVR: A Beautiful Monster

The Jaguar F-Type is a car that has offered a plethora of choices for its customers since its debut a few years back. V6 or V8, coupe or convertible, manual or automatic, the options go on and on. It’s not a bad thing either, as seemingly any way you spec the legendary E-Type’s successor will leave you with a car that’s fun to drive and incredible to listen to. For a while now, rumors have floated around about an F-Type that would top the range, sitting above the already-brutal F-Type R. The car would be a product of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations, a team of people focused on taking otherwise quick cars and turning them into lunatics (in the best way possible). Well, these rumors have finally been proven true. Allow me to introduce you to the fastest Jaguar on sale today, the F-Type SVR.

The SVR is, unsurprisingly, powered by the same 5-liter, supercharged V8 that currently sits under the hood of the F-Type R. Here, however, it produces even more power: 567 horsepower and 516 lb ft of torque to be exact. This immense grunt is sent to a rear-biased, all-wheel drive system through a recalibrated version of ZF’s 8-speed automatic transmission. 0-60 happens in a blistering 3.5 seconds (for the coupe, the convertible will be slightly slower), and the SVR continues pushing all the way to a 200 mph top speed (195 in the convertible).

The SVR is not only the fastest car Jaguar produces, but also the meanest. Several cosmetic enhancements have been implemented in order to improve aerodynamics and cooling, and they’ve managed to make the F-Type look pretty menacing as a result. The front end features a revised splitter as well as noticeably larger intakes, while the back features a new active rear wing and revised diffuser. But wait, there’s more. The F-Type’s roaring V8 has become famous for its loud, crackling, unapologetic nature, but it seems Jaguar didn’t think it was quite loud enough. As a result, the SVR features a titanium exhaust system, and I can only imagine the brutality of the noises that will spew from those quad pipes.

Several adjustments have been made under the F-Type’s skin as well. A stiffer suspension works in conjunction with new anti-roll bars to keep the car nice and rigid, while lightweight wheels help to reduce unsprung mass down low. All-in, you’re looking at the fastest, most aggressive sports car Jaguar makes, and that should be enough to pique your interest. The SVR takes the F-Type and turns it up to 11, without ruining the gorgeous styling that makes it so loved today. It goes on sale later this year, with pricing probably starting around $150,000.
